The ingredients in our formulas carry the character of their landscapes and the work of the people who cultivate, press, refine, and supply them.
Whenever possible, Hartwood works directly with American farmers and producers. These relationships allow us to ask better questions about cultivation, processing, and traceability while bringing ingredients with genuine regional character into our formulas.
Not every material we use is sourced directly. Some ingredients are obtained through trusted suppliers, and some Hartwood products may be made in partnership with experienced manufacturing partners. We believe transparency includes being clear about that distinction.
A thoughtful supply chain is not always the shortest one. It should, however, be honest, considered, and accountable.

Every Hartwood product is labeled with its complete ingredient list. When a Hartwood product is scented, we disclose the aromatic materials that shape its aroma. We do not use "fragrance" or “parfum” as a catch-all term to conceal an undisclosed fragrance composition.
Transparency is not a marketing story told around the product; it is part of the product itself: clear labeling, considered sourcing, and straightforward information that supports informed choices.

Muscadine Seed Oil
INCI: Vitis Rotundifolia (Muscadine) Seed Oil
What it is: A lightweight botanical oil cold-pressed from the seeds of muscadine grapes, a grape native to the southeastern United States and long woven into the agricultural character of the region. Its deep purple fruit and resilient vines make muscadine a distinctly Southern botanical, with a sense of place that feels especially at home in Hartwood’s formulas.
Why we use it: Muscadine seed oil brings elegant slip and a light, comfortable finish to anhydrous formulas. It was selected for its distinctive regional origin and naturally occurring antioxidant compounds.

Pecan Oil
INCI: Carya Illinoinensis (Pecan) Seed Oil
What it is: A rich yet elegant botanical oil pressed from pecan kernels. The pecan tree is deeply associated with the American South and has a long agricultural history across Georgia and neighboring states.
Why we use it: Pecan oil offers a softly cushioning skin feel without overwhelming heaviness. Its naturally occurring fatty-acid profile and warm, nourishing character make it especially suited to body oils, balms, and other leave-on formulas designed to feel enveloping yet polished.

Sunflower Seed Oil
INCI: Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil
What it is: A light, golden botanical oil pressed from sunflower seeds. Known for its broad, sun-seeking flower and longstanding place in American agriculture, sunflower brings an uncomplicated, generous character to skin care: familiar, functional, and quietly beautiful.
Why we use it: Sunflower oil provides a gentle, smooth, skin-conditioning feel and helps formulas spread evenly across the skin. It brings softness and comfort while keeping an oil blend approachable and fluid rather than excessively weighty.

Golden Jojoba Oil
INCI: Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil
What it is: A golden liquid wax pressed from the seeds of the jojoba shrub, a hardy desert plant native to the arid landscapes of the American Southwest. Though commonly called an oil, jojoba is composed primarily of wax esters, giving it a character and skin feel distinct from conventional botanical oils.
Why we use it: Jojoba is valued for its exceptional oxidative stability, silky glide, and refined skin feel. It helps give facial oils, body oils, and balms an elegant finish that feels supple and polished rather than greasy.

Meadowfoam Seed Oil
INCI: Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam) Seed Oil
What it is: A botanical oil pressed from the seeds of meadowfoam, a flowering plant native to the Pacific Northwest. Its small white flowers can blanket fields in spring, creating the softly foaming appearance that gave the plant its name; beneath that delicate surface is an oil valued for its uncommonly high stability and refined texture.
Why we use it: Meadowfoam seed oil gives anhydrous formulas a velvety texture and more substantial, polished finish. Its natural oxidative stability is particularly valuable in botanical oil blends, where it helps support both formula longevity and a luxurious sensorial profile.

Daikon Radish Seed Extract
INCI: Raphanus Sativus (Radish) Seed Extract
What it is: A lightweight, plant-derived emollient made from the seeds of daikon radish, a crisp white root vegetable cultivated for centuries and now grown in agricultural regions including the Pacific Northwest. Derived from a humble food crop, it brings a surprisingly modern, silken quality to oil-based skin care.
Why we use it: Daikon radish seed extract creates exceptional slip, quick spreadability, and a fast, silky after-feel. It helps oil-based formulas feel more fluid and sophisticated on application, with a lighter finish than many conventional botanical oils alone can provide.
